Listening Test 2
You will be presented with four listening exercises: two for each audio file.
We recommend choosing and doing only one exercise – either a) or b) – per audio file.
You can mix and match the exercises as you like.

1 You are going to hear three passages about three different devices.
a) Match each passage to the device in question. There are two devices that you do not need.
Tips & tricks for solving Task 1 a):
- Before you listen, study all the answer options carefully.
- On the basis of the answer options, try to predict the content of the recording you are about to hear.
- Think about what each device consists of and how it is used. You will need to listen for specific details and key words.
- When doing this task in print, be careful: if you change one answer, you will have to change the others, as well.
- You will hear the recording twice: don’t worry if you don’t get all the answers the first time.
- Use the second listening to check your answers.
b) Which passage is each sentence about? Choose the correct answer.
Tips & tricks for solving Task 1 b):
- Before you listen, read all the sentences carefully.
- Find key words and ideas in each sentence.
- The questions will appear in a random order, so it is very important that you know what information you need to listen for.
- The questions usually use synonyms of words that you hear in the recording. Read the answer options carefully, and try to think of other ways in which your key words might be expressed.
- You will hear the recording twice: don’t worry if you don’t get all the answers the first time.
- Use the second listening to check your answers.
2 You are going to listen to an interview.
a) Choose the correct answer.
Tips & tricks for solving Task 2 a):
- Before you listen, read all the questions carefully.
- The questions will be mentioned in the order you hear them in the audio.
- Find key words in the questions to help you focus on what you need to listen for.
- The answer options will not use the same words that you will hear in the recording. Study the answers, and try to think of some synonyms you might hear.
- You will hear the recording twice: don’t worry if you don’t get all the answers the first time.
- Use the second listening to check your answers.
b) Put the sentences in the order in which you hear the information in the interview. Write numbers 1 to 8. There is one sentence that you do not need. Mark it with X.
Tips & tricks for solving Task 2 b):
- Before you listen, read all the sentences carefully.
- Find key words to help you focus on what you need to listen for.
- The sentences might not contain the same words that you will hear in the recording. Study the key words you have highlighted or underlined, and try to think of some possible synonyms.
- Be careful: if you change one answer, you will have to change the others as well.
- You will hear the recording twice: don’t worry if you don’t get all the answers the first time.
- Use the second listening to check your answers.
